Urgent Care Q & A

Any eye problem that's causing enough discomfort, pain, or other problems you need immediate relief from qualifies as an eye emergency. Some of the eye problems that Dr. Jones treats at Family EyeCare Center include:

  • Eye trauma
  • Eye infection
  • Corneal scratch or abrasion
  • Seeing flashes or floaters
  • Dark or blank spots in your vision
  • Sudden change in vision
  • Chemical burn
  • Foreign object stuck in your eye

There are also many other situations in which you might need urgent care. If you're not sure whether you need immediate care, simply call Family EyeCare Center to get advice from one of the friendly team members.

First, call Family EyeCare Center to let the team know what's going on. That way, they can make time in the schedule for Dr. Jones to see you promptly. There are also a few "don'ts" to be aware of, including:

  • Don't press on or rub your injured eye
  • Don't try to remove a foreign body yourself
  • Don't stick anything in or around your eye
  • Don't bandage your eye

The bottom line is that an eye injury of any type can be very serious, and you should never delay care or attempt to correct it yourself. Dr. Jones has extensive training in all kinds of eye emergencies and he's here to help!

Dr. Jones can handle a wide range of urgent eye care needs on-site. Some of the most common treatments include eye flushes to clean your eyes, numbing eye drops to reduce pain, and antibiotics to encourage healing. Dr. Jones may prescribe eye drops, topical ointments, or oral medication in some cases.

In other cases, you might need to make lifestyle changes after an eye emergency, so Dr. Jones might recommend wearing glasses instead of contacts or making other changes as you heal. Usually, Dr. Jones will schedule you for a follow-up appointment in a few days so he can check on your healing. In some cases, if you have severe ocular damage, Dr. Jones might refer you to a specialist.
